Write about something you’ve always been curious about

Something I've always been curious about is how the pyramids were built. During the time they were built there wasn't that advanced technology so I've always wondered how they were able to put the pieces together. Also one block weighs around 2.5 tons which is a lot so how exactly were they put together. Also how were they put together at such a great height and perfectly aligned to the four cardinal points of the compass. I find it very fascinating that such beautiful structures were made and still stand to this day. I hope that one day we get answers but until then I will continue to wonder. Today in class we just did our blog post and any other work needed to pass.

Write about your most special holiday memory.

A most special holiday memory that I have was during Christmas when I was in 5th grade. Me and my family went to visit my great grandparents to spend the holiday together. We ate so much food and had so much fun talking and playing dominos, cards, and dice games. We watched movies and danced to music. Afterwards we exchanged gifts and just enjoyed being together. Today in class we read chapters 8-10 of A lesson before dying and then answered discussion questions.

Write about the best gift you have received

The best gift I have received is my dog. I got my dog for my 11th birthday and she has always been with me ever since. She is so kind and adorable and sometimes well behaved. She knows some tricks that I taught her and shes always following me. She is always there on both my good and bad days. I cherish her so much and will forever be grateful for her.  Today in class we read chapters 6-7 of A Lesson Before Dying and we also answered discussion questions.

Write about something that you believed as a child

Something I believed as a child was that if you swallow a watermelon seed that a watermelon would grow in your stomach. I'm not exactly sure who told me this but I remember me and my sisters eating a big bowl of watermelon my mom had just cut after school. We kept playing around with the seeds since we were very young. I believe it was either my aunt or my uncle who decided to scare us to see our reactions. After telling us me and my sisters got so scared we actually believed we were going to grow a watermelon in our stomach. Obviously we didn't and after a few years we were told the truth. Today in class we took a benchmark test for the school.

Describe a time you couldn’t stop laughing

A time I couldn't stop laughing was when I was with my sister and my girlfriend and we were joking around. They just kept on adding and adding new things to the joke and I just couldn't stop laughing. This particular day I didn't feel good and I wasn't in the best mood so they were trying their hardest to make my day better. However I was laughing so hard my stomach started to hurt but I enjoyed laughing with them.  Today in class we went to the auditorium so our counselors can talk to us about college and plans for the future.

Write about a fear you have overcome

A fear I have overcome is my fear of horror movies. When I was younger I would get scared of the littlest things very easily. However my mom loves scary movies and it takes so much to scare her even a bit. So I grew up watching scary movies and overtime my fear began to fade away. I learned that in the movies the things I would be scared of are very nearly impossible and didn't seem as real as I made it out to be. Then Eventually my fear was gone. Now I watch scary movies frequently with my family and we almost never get scared and instead laugh at them. Today in class we received a project on A Lesson Before Dying. We went over what is expected in the project and how we should execute it. The project currently doesn't have a specific due date but so far I am on track.

Write about an unforgettable meal

An unforgettable meal that I’ve had was in puerto rico called Pasteles. My mom side is Puerto rican but i grew up mostly around my father’s side who is Mexican. Aside from this I mostly grew up eating Mexican food but I still eat Puerto Rican food. When I went to P.R I tried many dishes that I haven’t had before or have but they tasted so much better. One of them being Pasteles, this dish is one of my favorites but after trying it from in P.R my favor for it grew stronger. Today in class we read chapter 5 of A lesson before dying and answered discussion questions. The chapter was interesting and allowed me to have a look into what it was like during that time.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about

Something I cant stop thinking about is last summer. My last summer was so much fun, I went to Puerto Rico where my mother grew up and visited my friends and practiced my sport. During this time I was so carefree because I didn't have to worry about much. Summer is also my favorite season and Im usually my happiest during that time so i think about it often.  Today in class we read chapters 2-3 of A Lesson Before Dying. We also answered discussion questions and talked about them with the class.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly

The time I was judged unfairly was in 8th grade I had a teacher who didn't like me. Regardless of the amount of good grades and the amount of effort I put into the class there seemed to be nothing to change the teachers mind. For a while I thought maybe the teacher just came off as rude to me but did like me. Until one day they made a very negative comment to me about what I usually wear. From there on I never stopped thinking about it because I had never had a real conversation with the teacher and their reason for their dislike towards me, in my mind, seemed very childish and unfair. Today in class we were introduced to a novel called A Lesson Before Dying. We also went over the differences in connotation and denotation as well as some practice with connotation. Then to have a better understanding of the story we went over the qualities of Man and finished off by listening to chapter one of the story.

Write about a conversation that changed you

A conversation that changed me is when I was having a hard time in 5th grade and my grandpa talked to me about things that might have been going on in my head. During this time I wasn't exactly in the best mindset and I didn't understand why I wasn't as lucky as the other kids my age. My grandfather heard about this from my mom and decided to sit me down for a talk. He explained how everyone goes through their own battles and whether they show their scars or hardships doesn't mean they don ´ t go through it. He taught me that pushing through rough things only makes the outcome more beautiful. This conversation changed my perspective on life and showed me that even the most hardest battles can have a beautiful outcome.  Today in class we worked on a vocabulary worksheet and went over what the next 3 weeks before break is going to be like.
